Backend Developer (Node.js / Python)

Job Overview

Bailjini's backend powers everything that makes our service work at speed and at scale: case management, advocate dispatch, real-time notifications, document storage, and client communications. As a Backend Developer, you will build the systems that work reliably under the pressure of urgent legal matters — because when someone is in custody, our systems cannot go down.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Bailjini's backend services using Node.js and/or Python
• Build and maintain APIs consumed by the client portal, advocate dashboard, and mobile app
• Design and optimise database schemas for case management, document storage, and audit trails
• Implement robust notification systems: WhatsApp, SMS, and email alerts for clients and advocates
• Build integrations with court e-filing systems and legal research platforms where APIs are available
• Own reliability: monitoring, alerting, incident response, and performance optimisation
• Write comprehensive tests and maintain documentation for all services
• Participate in architecture decisions and technical roadmap planning

What We Are Looking For

• 2–4 years of backend development experience with Node.js or Python
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs at production scale
• Understanding of security practices for sensitive data handling (encryption, access control, audit logging)
• Experience with job queues, background workers, and asynchronous processing (Bull, Celery, or similar)
• Comfortable with cloud infrastructure and deployment (AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes basics)

Nice to Have

• Experience with legal tech, healthcare, or compliance-sensitive applications
• Familiarity with Indian government APIs (DigiLocker, Aadhaar, court e-filing systems)
• Experience building multi-tenant SaaS architecture
